The Young Scholars Program (YSP) Ideation Event, run by the CMI, facilitates networking of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers across research disciplines to jointly submit interdisciplinary research proposals that bridge research units and fulfill the CMI mission to provide solutions for societal grand challenges in human and animal health for the benefit of North Carolina and the world. We now open this event to trainees in biomedical programs at regional institutions including Duke University and North Carolina Agricultural and Technological State University (NC A&T). Special funding from the American Heart Association may be reserved for projects related to cardiovascular health.

NOTE: While the NC State Society for Biomaterials Student Chapter is excited to collaborate with the CMI to host this year’s YSP Ideation Event, Biomaterials-specific research is NOT a requirement to participate or receive funding for CMI YSP proposals! Biomedical researchers of all disciplines at NC State, Duke, NC A&T, and other regional institutions are encouraged to join to find collaborators that form interdisciplinary research connections.

Proposals submitted by teams of two or more graduate students and postdocs will be competitively evaluated and funded based on transformational potential, interdisciplinary nature, and mission fit with the CMI. Successfully funded proposals will be awarded funds to support the stipend of an undergraduate research trainee that will be jointly mentored by the graduate or postgraduate investigators as well as research supply funds.
